Maintaining Good Eyesight

One of the most important organs of our body is our eyes. We perceive up to 80% of all impressions by means of our sight. And if other senses such as taste or smell stop working, it’s the eyes that best protect us from danger. The eyes make an essential contribution to the facial expression and serve for getting into contact with other people, therefore they are an indispensable means of communication.

We should not neglect our eyes. Whether you are gazing into the eyes of a loved one or steering your own  car down a curvy road. Your eyes are your window to the world, allowing you to create memories and  experience each moment.

These are the steps in maintaining a good sight:

1. Eat healthy food

  • Carrots
  • Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards
  • Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish
  • Eggs, nuts, beans, and other non meat protein sources
  • Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices
  • Oysters

2. Wear Sunglasses

Limited exposure to sunlight is good for your eyes, but too much exposure can cause harm to your eyes.

3. Stay Hydrated

The average human body is made up of about 60% water, or even more. If you are having any kind of eye sight problem, try to increase your daily water intake.

4. Do not smoke

There is a strong link between smoking and high blood pressure, cataracts and diabetes all of which are risk factors for glaucoma.

5. Rest

It is still important to rest your eyes once in a while. 8 to 10 hours of sleep Sleep is important to enjoy better eyesight as it allows overworked eye muscles to relax.

6. Computer eye protection

Taking a break for about 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent in front of the screen. Simply close your eyes for a minute or get up and walk around the office. Focus on something that isn’t a screen.You can avoid dryness of your eyes by trying to blink frequently, even when you are focused on watching TV or working on your computer. Also avoid staying at air-conditioned room for long hours as the dry air will suck the moisture out of eyes like a sponge.

7. Remove eye make up

Most of us use eye makeup to enhance the look of our eyes and make them look more attractive and beautiful. It is very essential to use good quality eye makeup products as eye makeup is a great repository for bacteria, which can easily be transferred to your eyes and cause infections. Also replace your eye makeup products such as mascara every three months and other eye makeup once a year.

8. Visit your eye doctor regularly

Once in a year, you must visit an eye expert to check whether your eyes are functioning in a proper manner or not. Regular eye test are important  because your eyes  don’t usually hurt when something is wrong. A sight test  is a vital health check for  your eyes. Your eye doctor can pick up early signs of eye conditions before you’re aware of any symptoms – many of which can be treated if found early enough.
